Signature Authorization/Delegation (8/16/2006)
Welcome back to a new academic year of purchasing. The Old Dominion University Research Foundation policies and procedures require that any financial transaction initiated be done so with appropriate levels of authorization. Signature authorization is the responsibility of the designated Principal Investigator on individual project accounts, cost centers, overhead accounts and discretionary accounts. (more)

In 2005-2006, the Office of Research funded five (5) multi-investigator, multidisciplinary seed- funding proposals. (more)
Research Foundation Fall Semester Deadlines (7/28/2006)
As a reminder, the Research Foundation is on a biweekly payroll (26 pays) for all employees. The fall semester for students includes 10 pay periods (08/06/06 to 12/23/06). All fall Payroll Authorization Forms (108's) for students must be submitted no later than Tuesday, August 1, 2006 in order to be processed in time to receive the first paycheck on August 25, 2006.

Missing information or signatures will delay the processing of the 108. Late registration for classes will also delay the processing of the 108.

2005-2006 Annual Research Report (7/24/2006)

Post Doc Benefits (6/29/2006)
The Research Foundation Board of Trustees approved the extension of income protection benefits, life insurance and disability insurance, to Post Doctoral Research Associates effective July 1, 2006. (more)
Updated Holiday Closing Schedule (6/20/2006)
Governor Kaine has designated Monday, July 3, 2006 as an additional state holiday. President Runte has notified employees of ODU that all operational areas at ODU will be closed July 3 and 4 with the exception of scheduled classes and special needs areas. The Research Foundation follows the University schedule and will be closed on July 3rd and 4th this year. Leave eligible employees who are required to work on the holidays will be compensated according to the Holiday Leave policy.
Request for Leave Share Program Donors (5/16/2006)
Two relatively new employees of the Research Foundation are out of work recovering from recent hospitalizations. Each will exhaust their accrued leave balance prior to their anticipated return to work dates. It is estimated that Mary Garrett, a Grant and Contract Administrator will need 1–2 months leave and Mathew King a Post Doctoral Research Associate in Chemistry will need 2 – 4 months leave.

Leave-eligible Research Foundation employees who are willing to donate some of their available annual leave balance may make a pledge of their annual leave to a “bank” specifically for these persons to be used on an as needed basis. Volunteer donors may pledge their available annual leave in daily increments (8 hours at a time). If you are interested in donating to the
bank, please contact Alan Bohache, Director Human Resources for the Leave Share Program Donor Application Form. Completed Forms may be returned by campus mail to Hughes Hall Room 2033, by US Mail to ODU Research Foundation, PO Box 6369, Norfolk VA 23508, or by Fax to 683-5290. If you elect to participate you may choose to designate leave for a specific individual or indicate your leave donation to be used as needed for either candidate. Donations of annual leave in increments of 1 day (8 hours) will be selected as needed. As a reminder, the Research Foundation is on a biweekly payroll (26 pays) for all employees. The summer semester includes 6.5 pay periods (05/07/06 – 08/05/06). All summer Payroll Authorization Forms (108's) for faculty and students must be submitted no later than April 25, 2006 in order be processed in time to receive the first paycheck on May 19, 2006. New Mileage Reimbursement Rate Effective January 1, 2006 (1/10/2006)
Old Dominion University Research Foundation will adjust its reimbursement rate for the use of one’s personal automobile for business purposes to 44.5 cents for 2006. The rate is effective January 1, 2006 and will apply to all official travel on or after that date. The new rate matches the rate approved by the General Services Administration and replaces the temporary rate previously in effect until December 31, 2005.

Research Foundation Recruiting Enhancements - Fall 2005 (8/9/2005)
Two new forms (Recruitment Information Form and Position Description Form) have been developed to assist in collecting the information needed to initiate a new recruitment process for a full time Regular and Post Doc status employee. (more)
Personnel Activity Reports (7/26/2005)
This week the Research Foundation will be distributing to Principal Investigators the Personnel Activity Reports (PARS) for the spring, summer and fall semesters of 2004. The purpose of these reports is to reflect an after-the-fact reporting of the percentage distribution of activity of employees compensated under sponsored programs. Your cooperation in reviewing, obtaining the required signatures and returning these reports to the Research Foundation will be greatly appreciated. We apologize for any inconvenience the delay in the distribution of these reports may cause.
Leave accrual and associated charges for Post Doctoral Research Associates (6/16/2005)
Post Docs employed through the Research Foundation will begin accruing annual and sick leave benefits as of June 26, 2005. This implements the leave program that was originally planned for July 1, 2002. (more)

Modification to Advance Travel Authorization Procedure (11/12/04)

Changes to FICA Exemption for students affect every "all but dissertation" (ABD) status student employee taking one credit hour. (more)

 

Proposal Submission Procedure (9/24/04)

The procedure that follows is to define the process by which Principal Investigators (PI) give final approval to the form and content of proposals before submission to the funding agency. (more)

Research Using Human Subjects (12/18/01)

If you are using human subjects in your research, you are encouraged to complete the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) online training ethics course at least once per year. (more)
